Hearing Aid Styles


BTE: Behind The Ear.


This style of hearing aid fits snug behind the ear. A small plastic tube is attached which loops over the top of the ear and rests inside the ear canal. This also called an “Open Fit”. This design is cosmetically appealing and only slightly visible. There is generally no “plugged – up” feeling. They are easy to insert and they have several accessory options available.

CIC: Completely In The Canal.


This style of hearing aid rests completely in the ear canal. This style is cosmetically appealing and is nearly invisible. There is some potential for a “plugged up” feeling. This style is easy for telephone use. It requires good dexterity to insert. It has a shorter battery life than other styles and may cause some wax build-up.

ITE: In The Ear. Full Shell.


This style of hearing aid is molded specifically for your ear canal rests firmly over your ear canal. It is visible in the ear. This style is easy to handle, has less of a “Plugged-up” feeling and has more power. This style has a good battery life and accessories such as wireless communication are available.

ITC: In The Canal. Half Shell.


These are less conspicuous than the ITE aids as they are positioned further into the canal with only a smaller faceplate area visible. They are typically available as Half Shell, Canal or Mini Canal versions depending on what is required. This style is cosmetically appealing and is slightly invisible. This style requires good dexterity to insert. Accessories such as wireless communication are available.

Which type of Hearing Aid is Best for You?


There are three levels of hearing aid instruments available for you to choose from.

Choose "Standard" if you:

  • Are usually in quiet environments
  • Want good sound quality and speech understanding
  • Occasionally attend small gatherings
  • Want whistle-free listening
